Warnings
Before we start this little history lesson, I want to make a few things clear:
- First, I'd like to apologize to any extraterrestrials who might feel like contacting me to get their calendar featured on this site. I would be deeply sorry not to follow up, for several reasons: this site's name is “calendar saga”, and its subtitle is “calendars across the world and through time”. I already struggle enough to cover the calendars on our own planet, without also dealing with the Smurfs'.
- While studying the Ummite calendar, I ran into every problem you can hit with this kind of research: revisiting astronomical principles, no input from the people concerned, copyright headaches, no character fonts for the language used (well done Microsoft, not even an Ummite font!!), and the rest of the usual chaos. So the Ummite calendar will be the only one of its kind on this site.
- As with religious calendars, here comes my usual line: my goal is not to take sides on whether these facts and events are real, only to report them.
A bit of history
Don't look for Umittie in an atlas. You won't find it.
The Ummites (or Oummites) are said to be the inhabitants of planet UMMO, which orbits a stellar body (sun) called IUMMA (or YUMMA).
And don't look for IUMMA on a detailed star chart either. You won't find it. According to the Ummites themselves, this star is known to us by the sweet name Wolf 424, or more precisely Wolf 424AB. Let's keep it friendly and call it Wolf. It lies 14.3 light-years from our Sun. We'll come back to that in the Ummite astronomy section.
I'll try to summarize the Ummites' contact with Earth. If you want more detail, it's here or in this archived version.
Best to let the Ummites speak for themselves (in italics).
"Two years before 28 March 1950 (EARTH YEARS), our XANMOODAIUVA Central in the UIIOGAA IXIOGAA region detected a very low-frequency radio emission (413.43877 megacycles per second) coming from the Galactic Interstellar Group...". Two years before 28 March 1950, I think that means 28 March 1948.
"We later discovered that this was Earth's MORSE code. But our technicians interpreted it as binary code (dot = zero, dash = one)."
"This error caused an incorrect translation of the message because, with many interpretations possible, the most coherent seemed to be the analytical expression of the equation that mathematically represents four orthogonal points on a plane, that is: A SQUARE. That is why the presumed planet from which the signals came was named with the word "OYAGAA", translated as Cold Star (of the) Square."
So let's remember: OYAGAA, in Ummite, is our good old Earth.
"Upon arriving on Earth... we were able to clarify the signal's real origin. It was not, as we thought, an interplanetary message sent by an Earth civilization, but a fragment of coded conversation sent by a Norwegian vessel which, between 4 and 8 February 1934, transmitted this message while heading for Newfoundland."
"The transmission took 14 years to reach UMMO, because electromagnetic waves propagate along a geodesic which, considered in three-dimensional space, is a line."
Curious as fleas, the Ummites decide to pay us a short visit and organize a first expedition “to have a look”.
“... the journey quickly became possible. After 193 XII (Xii is a rotation or”DAY" of UMMO), conditions were favorable for the first exploration; 24 men left for this planetary system aboard two OAUOLEEA UEUA OEMM (this is how we name the lenticular-shaped vehicles that move outside our atmosphere)."
As we will continue to report in the next document, this trip was mainly exploratory and its first target was NEPTUNE, then planet MARS and finally EARTH, but without landing."
Clearly pleased with this first 14.6 light-year outing, they decide to pay us a proper visit, with 26 people aboard three OAUOOELEA UEUA OEMM, sparing us the details of the propulsion system. The journey lasts 64 Earth days and they arrive on 28 March 1950.
“At the stated hour, three of our OAWOOLEA UEWA OEMM (spacecraft)”suddenly appeared" at an altitude of 7,336 meters above a location about 13 km from the French town of DIGNE and 8 km from the village of "LA JAVIE" (Basses-Alpes department), not far from the border with the Swiss Cantonal and Federal Republic... Shortly afterwards, six expedition members came out, accompanied by 20 crew members. It was necessary to begin urgent underground construction work."
It is in the mountains around La Javie, near Digne, that the Ummites landed on 24 March 1950 and dug an underground shelter. Unfortunately, neither the shelter entrance nor the stored equipment has ever been found to this day.
I'll skip the discovery, in a “shed at the bottom of the garden”, of a newspaper and its two uses... and recommend reading the original text on the topic.
I'll also skip the encounter with an UGEE (child), a young shepherd who taught them our language.
"In that day, 119 words corresponding to visible objects in the countryside, parts of the human body, and verbs describing a few common actions such as "TAKE", “EAT”, “DRINK”, “GET UP”... etc., in infinitive form, were revealed to us by this Earth UGEE."
And then we come to 24 April 1950.
"We had resumed contact with the UUGEE (the French child), who, although of elementary education, taught our brothers the meaning of certain key words that gave them enough information on important matters such as the existence of autonomous nations, the notion of money, and other customs specific to Earth beings.
"The young French boy provided two copies of the French press, Le Monde dated 22 April and Le Figaro dated 17 April, both reporting rumors of serious illness concerning a certain Stalin."
Everyone knows that children with elementary education read Le Monde, while grown-ups read Spirou.
"On the night of 24 April 1950, four of our brothers entered an isolated house in the countryside."
"The following were stolen: approximately seventy thousand old francs, clothes, identity documents (from which we made false ones), two ballpoint pens, a hygrometer shaped like a nun, keys, postage stamps, a packet of letters and paid invoices relating to a tractor, several outdated newspapers. Specialized books on cattle breeding, a text explaining the phases of harvest, and a tractor manual. A children's encyclopaedia, a roll of toilet paper, some wound disinfectant, an alarm clock, two electric bulbs (which you in Spain call "bombillas"), a piece of soap. We tore out a light switch and the electric meter. Also, some tractor spare parts, tubes of sugar-coated medicine, a school bag with homework, six pairs of men's shoes and two pairs of women's shoes (all there were), the radio set, a bottle of lemon juice, two potatoes, a wall calendar, pruning shears, and an oil lamp."
This pile of odds and ends supposedly taught them everything about us.
Then, from 1966 onward, they start writing. They write and write, to such an extent that next to them Madame de Sevigne looks like a sad illiterate.
They write about everything: their lifestyle, sociology, cosmology, sexology, geography. They seem to know more about us than we do: the Turin Shroud, AIDS, the Gulf War.
If you want to read their texts, it's here.
The number of people receiving letters is relatively high. It is said to be 34 in Spain, and also includes several French recipients. They are generally well-known or lesser-known ufologists.
We have 150 documents out of 176 catalogued, representing around 1,000 pages. That's little compared with the 3,580 original pages (160,000 sheets) mentioned in a 1988 text.
Then in 1994, nothing. No more letters. Out of stamps, or bad cabbage soup?
Ummite astronomy
Letter 41-1 about the solar system to which planet UMMO belongs:
“Orbit: elliptical, with star WOLF 424 (IUMMA), our sun, at one focus. Distance from WOLF 424 focus to the solar system focus on 4 January 1955: 3.68502 lumans. Radius of UMMO measured in VAAUAWE universal notation: R 1 = 7,251.63 km
"The oceans cover approximately 62%. The rest is concentrated in a single continent full of large lakes."
Additional information and explanations found in other letters:
- 1 luman = one light-year
- One WAALI = 124.3 light-years
- The unit of time is the UIW, equal to 3.092 of our minutes. It is the time interval needed for WAELEUIE UOD (our Thorium C isotope) to reduce its mass by 50%.
- The unit of length is the ENMOO, equal to 1.874 of our meters.
Two surprising points that deserve a few clarifications:
1) the distance from WOLF 424 to our Sun is estimated at 3.68502 light-years. In other texts, it is given as 14.3 light-years.
The Ummites explain this difference by saying it “varies greatly from one day to another according to space-time concepts discovered by Ummo”. Crystal clear. So those claiming the gap comes from upward revisions of our astronomical data are just malicious tongues. The match between those two revisions is pure coincidence.
2) The orbit of UMMO around WOLF 424 is, according to the Ummites, elliptical.
In reality, the Hubble Space Telescope has shown that WOLF 424 is a binary star.
According to astronomers, a planet orbiting two stars of similar mass cannot have an elliptical orbit; its motion would resemble a chaotic path.
But a little Ummite distraction when observing their sun(s) won't stop us from studying their calendar.
The calendar
Let's note right away that the Ummites use a duodecimal arithmetic system (base 12).
Lucky Ummites: they only have one calendar for the entire planet. And it is very simple, since days are identified by their rank within the year. The year itself is identified by its rank from the beginning of the era.
The Ummite day
The rotation of planet Ummo lasts 30.9 Earth hours, that is 30 hours 55 minutes. This duration corresponds approximately to 600 UIW and, naturally, to the length of an Ummite day.
One XI (day of Ummo) = 1,855.2 Earth minutes. There are no divisions corresponding to hours.
The Ummite year
Here things become a little more complicated.
For us, the tropical year is the Earth's revolution time around the Sun.
Even if the Ummites do not burden themselves with notions such as tropical, sidereal or others, the issue lies elsewhere.
As letter D32 says, "the concept of YEAR has a different meaning for us since it is actually a fraction of UMMO's translation interval". More plainly, the Ummite year is the time Ummo needs to travel part of its revolution around Iumma.
One UMMO YEAR (“XEE”) = 1:18 of translation time. The time needed for Ummo to complete one full orbit around Iumma is called XEEUMMO.
The duration of one XEE is 60 Ummite days (or XII). Since one day = 1,855.2 Earth minutes, the Earth duration of an Ummite year is (1,855.2 x 60)/(60 x 24) = 77.43 Earth days (about 2 1/2 months).
And here I'd really like an Ummite to send me a short letter explaining how, with a year of only 60 days, one can write (letter D33-3): “But on day 94 of year 315, a new astonishing discovery occurred...”
To complete the calculations: 1 Ummite year = 0.212 Earth years and 1 Earth year = 4.72186 Ummite years. You age quickly on UMMO!!
From time to time, the Ummites get a bit lost and write (letter 58) that XEE means “UNIT OF TIME EQUIVALENT TO UMMO'S TRANSLATION AROUND OUR HOT STAR IUMMA”. But maybe they meant XEEUMMO, or maybe it's a translation mistake.
Although this is outside our calendar topic, let's ask how long one XEEUMMO lasts, meaning a full revolution of Ummo around Iumma.
You might be tempted to say 60 x 18 = 1,080 Ummite days, i.e. 1,393.74 Earth days.
Well, no. The correct answer is 180 Ummite days, or 232.29 Earth days.
Here is the explanation from part of letter 74, reproduced as is for your study. Please do let me know if you fully understand it.
"Our way of evaluating long periods differs from yours, and this has persisted throughout our history, originating in a very old astronomical error. We define XEE (UMMO "year") as 1/18 of our OYAA's translation around IUMMA (currently the phoneme XEE is also a synonym of Cyclic Trajectory).
Our ancient cosmologists ignored that UMMO's ecliptic plane had a distinct orientation from that of the second OYAA orbiting IUMMA, which they used as reference, and they concluded that UMMO's path was diplo-helicoidal (figures 2 and 3) on the surface of an imaginary cylinder.
They also believed our OYAA described three descending translations - fig. 2 - and three ascending ones - fig. 3 - to complete one cycle. One XEE (UMMO “year”) equals 0.212 Earth years (77.38 days).
We can now define XEE as 1/3 of the true translation period. Six periods are therefore equal to the very old XEEUMMO = 18 XEE. "
Ummite eras
Letter D541 gives details about Ummite chronology:
"We know that around 11.8 million Ummo-years elapsed, our ancestors were writing with an almost ideographic alphabet and counted using the decimal system as you do now (at present our numbering system is base 12). Even in year one of the first era, they still counted in decimal. In year One, it was believed humanity would live only for six thousand Ummo-years (about one thousand two hundred and seventy Earth years).
This is where the origin of the current eras of six thousand Ummo-years is found. Since you ask for a comparative calculation, we will say that year One corresponds to what we call the monocratic Government (which began at zero of the first era). At six thousand years, the second era began, called UMMOWOA (Divine Man).
UmmoWOA was born in Ummo year 1282.03 of this second era.
If we could synchronize time with you without disturbing space-time relations, we would say that for my UMMO brothers we are today in Ummo year 5923 of the third era, and therefore practically on the verge of starting the fourth. In this idealized framework (idealized because such perfect temporal synchronization is not possible), the divine figure of Jesus of Galilee, born on OYAAGAA (Planet Earth), would have appeared around Ummo year 2541 of the second era."
Everything is in this passage:
- Eras of 6,000 Ummite years
- Earth year 1987 (letter dated 10/04/1987) corresponds to year 5923 of the third Ummite era. Which day and month of Earth year 1987 corresponds to day 1 of Ummite year 5923? I have no idea.
